It seems like ages but finally Blogspot has enabled mobile templates. Wordpress has done it long before and it made bloggers (like me) envious of their mobile versions. And up till now, the only way you can have mobile version of your site show in mobiles is to have a customized template which detects the browser type and versions.
The mobile templates will allow for visitors to your site via mobile browsers to view a strip down, content version of your blog. This helps to cut down the visitors data usage as well as gives a more optimized reading view. Here is a look at how this blog looks like on my iPhone:
However, at the time of writing, it seems Google has decided not to allow third party mobile ads yet. As I have notice my ads from Adbrite, Infolinks and Kontera are not showing (I have no GoogleAds... cos they have banned me!). Maybe I should finally move to Wordpress.... what say you?
Many have had complaints about Viber not updating/refreshing their contact list with new Viber contacts. This is a known issue and the Viber developers are currently working on it to fix this. There is workaround while they try to fix this. Here's what you need to do:
In your Viber screen, click on contacts tab
Then click on the Viber tab on the top left.
Then click on the + sign on the top right.
Add the number of someone who has Viber or create a new.
Your contact list should now be updated with new Viber users. If that doesn't work, I guess you'll just have to wait on for the fix from the developers. Cheers.
A new app for the iPhone has been making the vibes around town. And when I say around town, I mean internationally. Its got everyone 'talking' and everyone has got their facebook's jammed with recommendations to download this app if you're on the iPhone. What is it? You probably have already heard it anyway; its the Viber app.
I was recently looking for a 2011 and 2012 calendar templates for Adobe Illustrator CS2 (I know, its old) to achieve a notebook project. My requirement was to have all 12 months in one page and not each month per page (as this could be done easily with Microsoft Words calendar template wizard) and I did not need anything too fancy (in fact, the less fancier the better). Let me tell you, it is really difficult to get a free Illustrator CS2 template off the internet.
I could find for years 2011 and before that but not for 2012. Of course there are lots of other types of templates for Microsoft Word 2007, but then again, I'm still running my old MS Office 2003 and the calendar templates only go up to 2010.
Ok, so what is the next best game on the iPhone besides Angry Birds? Well, take a look at the AppStore and see if you can figure it out. Its another simple mechanics game, requiring little learning skills, but lots of patience. If you ask me whether its as good as Angry Birds, I would probably say no but if you have already finished Angry Birds and looking for the next best game to indulge yourself with, I would highly recommend Cut The Rope.
Here's an interesting article, which I have long suspected and I'm sure many of you with common sense would know, putting your laptop on top of your lap to work is NOT a good idea. Scrotal hyperthermia (only applies to men), as they call it, is the overheating of your balls when you have a machine over it which is churning out tons of hot air.
I have always used a desk or a laptop table (for my bedside). Even those lap pads do not give you even protection from the laptop heat. So if you're one of those who always use a laptop on your lap, time to change your habit. Or else, you can have balls for dinner soon...
Those who thought Theme 11 was the last that you would see of the evil pigs of the Angry Birds game, you'd probably be devastatingly rejoicing the release of Angry Birds Halloween! Oh yes, many of you thought "Cut The Rope" was the new king in the Appstore after it dethrowned Angry Birds for a while, but the birds quickly took back its spot as the top paid app with the release of Angry Birds Halloween. Somehow ABH's release rekindle all the love for Angry Birds.
I have to say, Angry Birds' simple game mechanics is what makes it so easy for anyone from age 3 to 80 to grab it and start playing; and of course with the ease of a touch screen interface. Nothing else even comes close. So if you're having trouble obtaining the 3-stars for all the levels, here they are again and of course the hard work of uploading these videos are of it respective contributors in youtube. They did the hard work and I merely compile them here for your easy access so if you want to thank, thank the youtube contributors.
And here they are, the direct link for the videos for Theme 1 of ABH:
Not a day goes by that my junk folder in my hotmail or gmail account contains some kind of phishing attempt or internet scams. There is always unscrupulous people out there who tries to pry your personal information or try to make you believe they are some African country's ambassador looking for someone to help them channel their money.
Although I do feel a bit insulted when receiving this kind of email, there are always the greater fools out there who will fall for their traps and submit to their scams. And these scams unlike your everyday computer viruses, do not just invade Windows machines. They are OS independent! Here is one of the emails I received yesterday in my hotmail account and it goes to show how easy it is that someone will fall for it.

Looks like theme 11 would be the final theme from Rovio Mobile, the makers of Angry Birds. Well, at least at the time I'm writing this blog entry. I'm sure every penny for anyone who bought Angry Birds has been well worth it or even more. While Angry Birds Halloween version has been released, let's hope for Angry Birds 2 to be developed.
Again, thanks to scarbzscope who made all the effort to upload these videos to youtube.
I recently applied for online banking facilities to monitor my credit card usage (in hope to reduce paper usage and hence environmentally friendly). I went to the bank, told them I wanted internet banking facilities. A bank employee asked me to go to the ATM and use the credit card to apply for a initial pin code to register for facilities online. I don't know about you, but I can only remember the pin number to my ATM debit card and not for the myriad of credit cards that I have. So I told the bank staff I do not have pin for my credit card and she told me I will then have to wait for someone to attend to me.
I think I waited for almost 45 minutes before finally a staff who has been busy attending to her business on her desk, decided it was my turn (no one was at her desk prior to that and I only wanted to get a pin code for online registration). I was then asked to fill in a form before I got the pin code (which was less than 10 minutes). All in all, I spent almost an hour just trying to get a PIN for online registration of online banking facilities.
When I was back in front of my computer I quickly used the pin on the bank online portal. Then I was presented with an option to choose my own login name and password for the online facilities. Now I could see how much I owe them on my credit card facilities and any other savings account balances I have with them. Pretty common stuff these days. I didn't try any other functions available on the website as I only wanted to be able to check what I owe them and when my credit card debts were due.
Now the drama starts one week later. I tried recalling the username I used to register for the online bank facilities and also the password. I couldn't remember. But I have a username which I used commonly on online sites and so I tried but I couldn't login after attempting a few thousand times with different password combinations (again some are commonly used passwords). I suppose now my username would have been locked out from being attempted again. Well, my fault for not remembering it or WRITING IT DOWN! (Which we are advice against doing in fear of someone getting it and having access to our bank accounts).
So I finally gave up and clicked on the "Forgotten Password" link. It came up with a page that tells me "GO TO NEAREST ATM TO APPLY FOR NEW PIN"! WTF?! There is another link "Forgotten User ID". So I tried it and it goes back to the same page as "Forgotten Password" link! Why use two different links if they show the same thing?! By this time I was quite annoyed so I called their customer service hotline and ask if I could get a password reset link sent to the email I registered the online banking with. The person on the other side said the only way I could get it reset was to go to an ATM or nearest branch to get it done! (which she says it for our security) Now whats the point of getting my email address and all that information I submitted with while applying for the services??
Not to divert the blame of mistake for not remembering my login userid or password, but I thought online banking was suppose to be a convenience tool for customers/patrons and not to hassle them with time wasting visits to the bank (which will only make me wait for 60 MINUTES just to get a pin)!
Are we the only country (MALAYSIA) doing this kind of practice?

As of writing this entry, this is the last theme that is available in the game. But Theme 11 would be available in the next update of Angry Birds I would presume as it says "coming soon".

I'm back from the Hanoi trip and as promised I'm upating my experience of obtaining internet access on my iPhone. The first thing upon arriving there, I asked our tour guide which telco offers the best prepaid packages that has data usage included. I made a point of telling her my main usage is for data and not for phone calls. She told me not to purchase any prepaid sims because our hotel will have free wifi.
I'm going for a short vacation with my wife tomorrow. We're going to Hanoi city and Halong Bay in Vietnam. I've been doing some research on getting a prepaid service for mobile communications in Vietnam and so far have found three providers, Viettel, Vietnamobile and Mobifone.
I don't care much about the calls and SMS service as I only need the data service. And it is a no brainer to get a prepaid sim card rather than go on international roaming using my local provider. I would spend at least 20x more if I do so. So here is what I have found so far.
Up till now I have not even considered having an animated wallpaper on my iPhone. I remember all my old Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones have those cool animated wallpaper features. As I got to find out from Redmond Pie, Android has built-in support for the animated wallpapers ever since version 2.1 of their OS. Well, iPhone fanboys, no need to envy as there is now a solution for you too so that you can show off your iPhone 4 on the retina display with an animated wallpaper. Behold the vWallpaper jailbreak app. Yes you heard me right, you would first have to have a jailbroken iPhone. For the rest of the story, follow this link to Redmond Pie on how to install it.
Demonstration video after the jump...
Recently the official Jailbreak for iPhone iOS4 (firmware 4.0 and 4.01) has been released (go to http://jailbreakme.com) and I decided that it was time I upgraded by iOS 3.1.2 firmware on my iPhone 3Gs. Prior to upgrading, my phone's specs were these:
iOS 3.1.2 (iPhone 3Gs with old bootroom)
Jailbroken with Blackra!n.
Installed Cydia software that make my iPhone Springboard more simple to use:
Yesterday my wife's hotmail account got hijacked. The account was created more than 10 years ago and at that time, she did not set any alternate email address in case of situations such as this. And worst still, the secret question's answer had to be incorporated with the location in which your account was open under where and when. Email accounts, as we now realize, are actually something very personal which holds many of our personal information (and secrets!) as well as vital information. Also by loosing an email account, imagine all the hassle you'd have to go thru to inform all the other services which you have subscribed to that send to your email account. For e.g. credit card statements, utility bills, stock trading account, social networking accounts (e.g. facebook, twitter, etc.). And loosing this email account may compromise all your other social networking accounts too because they too have password recovery services which sends password reset information to your email account!
What do we do? Well, contrary to the forums on the internet which mostly complaint about the crappy service which they got from Microsoft Live team, we got it resolved within 24 hours (after searching high and low on the internet that is). The people complaining about the service probably did not provide initial information for the team to work on or they are approaching the wrong channel in Microsoft. If you have went to MSN help centre, they will simply ignore you because it was not the right channel.
With all the different social networking tools and platforms available nowadays, its just so much hassle to update all of them with what you're thinking (or feeling). I know I do. But of course, maybe not everybody think its important to update all of them. Just update the ones you think most of your friends will see. But what about those friends who aren't on that social network and they wanna know whats happening to you?
Well, here are a few of my favorite social networks and I do not go to everyone of them to update them one by one. I have Facebook, Twitter, GoogleBuzz, Live messenger and also Foursquare. Now I do not update my Foursquare with statuses but I do update all the other social networking services with my Foursquare locations though. How do I do it?
Recently just checked the stats of this blog using blogspots new tool. I was not surprise to find that many visitors now use Google Chrome for the internet. Looks like IE has got a lot to do now. The pie chart below illustrates the stats for this blog.
Now this is only for this blog and it may be different for others. But this can probably be a rough indication on the browser war and who's winning it. Looks like Firefox still reigns.
The only two Apple authorized mobile services providers in Malaysia, Maxis and DiGi, are getting ready to launch the iPhone 4 in Malaysia. Their respective iPhone websites have been updated respectively showing the early interest registration form (not for reservation of the iPhone). As can be seen below:
Although there is no specific dates as to when it will arrive, historically once they have it up on their websites, we can expect to see the products arrival in within 1 to 2 months. Well, I wonder how well it would sell with all the debacle in regards to "antennagate". And would Malaysia iPhone 4 buyers get the free bumpers too just like "the rest of the world"? All these will be answered in the coming months (I hope).
Google has announced last Friday (the same day as Apples conference on the Antennagate) that it will discontinue the Nexus One smartphone once the current shipment is completed. That means after this, it will be forever gone from Google's list of products. You can see from this official Blogregarding this announcement.
This probably does not come as a surprise because since its launch, the sales of the Nexus One has been dismally pale in comparison to Apple's iPhone or even other Android powered phones. Despite having superior tech specs compared to other Android phones in the market (be it from Samsung, Sony Ericsson or Motorola) and also favorable initial reviews, the Nexus One did not really take off with the bang they wished it would.
We have seen two giants taken products off the market in this short 2 months; Microsoft's Kin and now the Google Nexus One. So far the only software company which succeeded in the mobile/smart phone foray is Apple with its iPhone. What does that tell us?
The South African 2010 World Cup has concluded and the Espanols have claimed their first world champions title in their history. During the course of the World Cup, there has been heartbreaks and delight. The fans of the world most famous sport will probably remember this World Cup for many years and that is many years not without the mention of all the controversies. Most talk-about would likely be the controversial Adidas' brainchild, the "Jabulani" ball. Being the scapegoat of all the matches whenever there are weird goals, this ball has earned its name in the history books of World Cup sports.
And during this same month where World Cup 2010 was happening, we have the launch of one of techs most controversial gadget too. Released on the 24th of June 2010 this year, this gadget is probably one of the most anticipated gadget in 2010. We're talking about Apple's new iPhone 4. Of course the suspense of its technology was not too great thanks to an earlier debacle with it being found in the wild and exposed by a certain tech website, but its release nevertheless brings the competition yet again to their knees. However, every new gadget is not without its own controversy as well.... it makes good (free) publicity as well (like Apple will ever need it.). The controversy which has since emerge after the launch of iPhone 4 is the antennae/signal problem (the internet has since name this the antennagate)
Here are some common things that the Jabulani and the iPhone 4 share (IMHO):
Both were released in the month of June 2010.
Their brand both starts with the letter "A" (Apple & Adidas).
Both are a product of advancement in technology.
Adidas has refused to admit the Jabulani's shortcomings and have instead protected its design and say its best for the competition. Apple has also refused to admit iPhone 4's antennae design fault and also protected its design.
Both were not being withdrawn from the market and has continued to be used.
Both has been featured on various popular world news website frontpages for their respective controversies.
Both makers have been branded arrogant for their ignorance to dissatisfaction from players and users alike.
The Jabulani was used mostly with the presence of the noisy Vuvuzelas. iPhone 4 has a Vuvuzela app available for download :)
If you can think of any other similarities in these two, please do let me know so I can append this list.
And why do they all have to end in about the same week?? "24" is Series Finale is coming to an end next week and so is Lost. Other season endings are, CSI, CSI:NY and CSI: Miami. Can't they all end in different months instead. Then at least I have something to watch every month. Not to mention Heroes that has abruptly ended with no new season seen in the horizon (its not announced yet from what I know).
Hopefully the new seasons of Trueblood and Dexter will start sooner rather than later. But Lost and 24, totally my two most favorites and going out forever! Series finale.... Its rather more of bitter and sweet. Sweet because at least it has a beginning and end (unlike shows like 4400 or Knight Rider 2008 which got abruptly discontinued). Bitter because life will never be the same again without these shows on TV. I hope Heroes will not end up like 4400 or Knight Rider.
Here is a list of TV Series I like that are (suppose to) starting in Q3 or Q4 of 2010:
I have recently played these two games (one game actually, but 2 episodes) on my iPhone and find it intriguing. Its one of the better games IMHO available on the iPhone. Very good graphics and great sounds. If you like adventure games + mystery, then I would strongly recommend. And if you are like me, getting stuck and clueless on what to do next, I go searching for hints on how to solve the puzzles/mysteries. However, I do discourage following any complete walkthroughs as it would completely defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place... Anyhow, if you are playing or interested in playing this game, here are two sites for each episodes in case you get stuck in the game. I know solving it yourself will be much more fulfilling, but sometimes it can be too frustrating....
Opera has finally released their Opera Mini Browser for iPhone. Although the last time I checked on my US iTunes account, it stills says it is not available yet for the U.S of A.
First look of this browser looks very much like any other browser. The tab browsing was very effective and unlike iPhone's Safari, you can load a page on one tab while you browse on another tab. Another thing I notice was that any Flash on a website will be presented as a static image of the Flash! This leaves me to think, Opera actually captures the image of the Flash and presents it on the browser. This ought to be a good thing for us iPhone users. No more xxx in place of the unsupported Flash.
Javascript does not seem to work so well though. I could not "mouseover" a drop down menu to show the menus. Still, I will be using this browser more extensively now because of the background loading of tabs. That alone is kick ass and warrant enough for me to switch to Opera. Now if I can find a tool or someway to import my bookmarks from Safari, that will be awesome...
