How to link your Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz and Live Messenger statuses

With all the different social networking tools and platforms available nowadays, its just so much hassle to update all of them with what you're thinking (or feeling). I know I do. But of course, maybe not everybody think its important to update all of them. Just update the ones you think most of your friends will see. But what about those friends who aren't on that social network and they wanna know whats happening to you?

Well, here are a few of my favorite social networks and I do not go to everyone of them to update them one by one. I have Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Live messenger and also Foursquare. Now I do not update my Foursquare with statuses but I do update all the other social networking services with my Foursquare locations though. How do I do it?

Find out more after the jump....

First of all is to have a Twitter account. This is where I update my status and it gets propagated to the rest (except for Foursquare) of it, ie. Facebook, Google Buzz and Live messenger.

Facebook <-> Twitter connection
Once you have your Twitter account, open up your Facebook account and click on the search bar at the top of the page and type in "twitter". There will be a host of other twitter apps, just choose the app with the most users or go directly here http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/?ref=bookmarks . Now you will see this page:

At this point what you want to click is Allow. Once you have clicked that you will see this window on the left of the next screen.

Make sure that the check box is checked. So from now on, what you update on twitter will get posted onto your Facebook profile.

Google Buzz <-> Twitter connection
Next up, Google Buzz. Just go to your Google buzz and find the "Connected Sites" link and click on it. Usually this link is right about the status update space. Once you click on it, a pop-up will occur and you will see Twitter in it. Click Add on twitter and type in your twitter account name. That's it. Now all your tweets on twitter will get posted here.

Live Messenger <-> Twitter connection
Finally lets get your Live Messenger (or MSN Messenger as some may call it) linked to your twitter updates too. Now there are a few things to note on this one.

  1. First of all, we're updating the status of your Live Messenger window and NOT your Windows Live profile status. But your Windows Live profile will be updated upon updating your Live Messenger status. So this serves double purpose.
  2. You will have to install a 3rd party add-on to the Live Messenger. Now this 3rd party add-on is free and ads supported. But it does come with an option to not install the ads support. So if you're not comfortable with this, then you probably shouldn't continue on the remainder of this.
  3. You will also need to download a script that runs on this 3rd party add-on.
  4. This Live Messenger update is not an offline status update option. That means your Live Messenger will only be updated when you are online in your COMPUTER with Live Messenger started.
Ok, so once you are clear on the aforementioned points and still want to continue, go to http://www.msgplus.net/ click on download. Once you have downloaded this, go ahead and install it.
NOTE: YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO NOT INSTALL THE ADS SUPPORT.
So pay attention during the install process.

Once you have install Messenger Plus and restarted it, you should now find new functionalities and in your Live Messenger. That's for another story, what we want now is the scripting function. You will see the following icon in your Live Messenger window:

Now go to http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/517-Tweet2PSM/ and click on download. Once you are done downloading, go ahead and double click the .plsc file. It will show you this window

At this point you will have to decide whether you want to accept the resposibility... lol. Check on the checkbox and click import. After importing, click on the script icon (see above) in your Live Messenger window and you should see the Tweet2PSM script option. Select Authenticate with Twitter option and you should get this window.

Click on Authenticate with Twitter and your browser will open a page in twitter asking for your permission to link Tweet2PSM.

Once you click on Allow, you will get a pin number which you can then insert into the Tweet2PSM window. Once that is done, you will now have connected your Live Messenger to your twitter! Play around with the Tweet2PSM advance option to find the most suitable settings for yourself.

Now you will have twitter updates directly updated to Facebook, Google Buzz and Live Messenger. And if you're on mobile, its a great way to just be able to connect to just the twitter service and have all of the others updated.
