Maxis iValue Lite - a new way to Lite up your iLife?

Maxis just launched a new iPhone package in addition to its available iValue packages to entice new subscribers to its network. I cannot see the rationale over this iValue package though because it involves the most data intensive smartphone in the market. Obviously this package is aimed at countering DiGi's cheap plans but still I cannot see why one would prefer this package over its iValue 1 package.

Few considerations if you want to get an iPhone 4 iValue-Lite now:

  1. Are you using the iPhone for pure gaming and not for phone calls? Then just get the iPod Touch
  2. Do you want to make calls and game, but don't want to use data? Then you shouldn't even think about iPhone. Get a regular cellphone and get the iPod Touch.
  3. Many of iPhone functions requires that you have data in order to fully utilize the smartphone. For example, for checking weather forecast, for using Google Maps, for browsing the internet (Duh!), for sending messages (i.e. Whatsapp, Pingchat!,..etc), to access Facebook, Foursquare, ... and the list goes on. If you don't want those, don't get the iPhone much more the iValue-lite which only gives you 500Mb of free data.
  4. If you want to make calls frequently calls, this plan only gives you 150 mins free calls. Once you use up the minutes, the rest would be much more expensive (20% more than iValue 1's call rates). You do the math...
  5. If you can dish out RM2090 for a 16Gb iPhone 4, you cannot afford a more expensive plan for more data?? Good economic sense. Definitely Maxis have better economic sense than you, thats why they have this new plan :)
  6. If you can dish out RM2090 for a 16Gb iPhone 4 and still want a cheaper plan, get DiGi's iDiGi88. But be prepared for even worse coverage from the already bad Maxis.

Bottom line is, RM2090 for the 16Gb iPhone 4 (or RM2490 for 32Gb) on iValue-Lite does not make good economic sense. Get the iValue 1 and pay only RM1690 for the 16Gb iPhone 4. DiGi's option may be slightly (and only slightly) cheaper, but with its bad coverage, you'll likely be incapacitated most of the time.

P/S: I was a Maxis subscriber. Switched to DiGi. Now cannot wait to get back to Maxis.*hint*
