iPad 3, iPad HD, whatever you wanna call it, but its called the "new iPad"

The "new iPad" touted by netizens as the iPad 3 or iPad HD has finally been announced. Anything that we didn't know yet? Anyone who has been actively looking out for Apple's new product launches would have known what to expect during the 7th March 2012 announcement.

Needless to say, the launch of the new iPad have most of the features that we have come to expect. Here is a summary of some of the important hardware features that the new iPad sports:

  • The much touted Retina display. It has 4 times the number of pixels of the previous iPad and have a resolution of up to 2048 X 1536. That's more than enough to support any 1900 x 1080p Full HD video.
  • Apple's new A5X dual-core chip that also has embedded quad-core graphics chip.
  • 5-megapixel iSight camera with AF (Autofocus) and 1080p HD 30fps video recording. The FaceTime camera remains a VGA quality camera with 30fps video recordings.
  • A new 42.5-watt-hour battery to power the beast.
  • Cellular World ready (GSM and CDMA) with 4G LTE support for 10 times more speed that ye' ol 3G.
Now, out of the 5 points above, 4 of it were at least what we have expected from the new iPad. Probably the 5 MP iSight camera is the only one we didn't really see coming (we expected more?). And most of all, we didn't expect..... well, rather we expected the new iPad to be called iPad 3 or iPad HD and that didn't happen! According the some sources, Apple's Phil Schiller said that (and I quote), "because we don’t want to be predictable". What sort of an answer is that?!

As if all the other features they have upgraded from the previous iPad wasn't as predicted! Well, all I can say is, without the guidance of Steve Jobs, they have probably screwed some things up. Obviously Tim Cook didn't think of all the confusion this will cause amongst consumers. Not to mention all the unscrupulous crooks out there who will sell unknowing and ignorant buyers "the new iPad" and give them and iPad 2 instead. Ok, maybe there isn't any physical moniker to indicate which iPad versions, even in the older iPads, but for goodness sake, at least give it a proper name.

Imagine this when you tell a friend you have got an iPad and he asks, "which one?" and you answer, "the new one". "iPad 3?" is probably the next question he will ask and then you can go ahead and say,"No.. the new iPad". "Which one?!" And imagine when the next iPad that comes out after this, would it be called the new iPad 2? If not, what becomes of this latest iPad? It will be the "old new iPad". Maybe its good for some laughs... but certainly uncharacteristically uncreative from Apple (or Tim Cook?)

Anyway, Apple didn't really wow me this time around as most of what they have introduced were pretty much expected. Unlike in iPhone 4s, they wowed many with the 8MP camera and most of all Siri, and with iPhone 4 it was the retina display and the 5MP 720P video camera. Well, I wouldn't say the "new iPad" isn't impressive, just that it didn't have anything else unexpected (besides the "new" name of course). What other stuff did I expected the new iPad to have? I did NOT expect that Siri DON'T come with it, and not having Siri was a slight (not much) disappointment.

Nevertheless, this iPad will still probably do well in the tablet market. It is still undeniably the most advance in the market and match it together with its huge number of high quality apps available, its still a winner. But new iPad owners may opt to own the "old" iPad 2 now that its cheaper?
