redsn0w untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 on the iPhone & iPad
I'm always asked this question by my friends, "Hey dude, is the iPhone iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak out yet?" ever since iOS 4.3 was released. Finally, the Dev-team have released the latest jailbreak for the iOS 4.3.1. What more.... it is an untethered jailbreak. The tethered jailbreak was released earlier but I would always refrain people from using it. Imagine you are out and either your battery drained or you need to reboot your iPhone after a Cydia app installation or you have a non-responding phone which needed a hard boot? With a tethered jailbreak, you'll be running around like a headless chicken.
For those of you that have been waiting for this untethered jailbreak solution, you can now go to the Dev-team's website and download the latest RedSn0w 0.9.6rc9 jailbreak (for Windows and Mac OSX). A word of warning though, this jailbreak only works on certain iPhone, iPod and iPad generations. Here's an excerpt from Dev-teams blog on the supported devices:
"The 4.3.1 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.1 except for the iPad2:
iPhone3GS
iPhone4 (GSM)
iPod touch 3G
iPod touch 4G
iPad1
AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)"
And for tutorials on how to jailbreak using this new tool, head over to iClarified for instructions. The jailbreak process is easy, even an idiot can do it :) Another word of caution, DO NOT UPDATE if you are an ultrasn0w user or you will loose your unlock! More details of why so on the Dev-teams blog.
