The Elongated iPhone... iPhone 5

For the first time since the release of iPhone 3GS, I'm not awed by the announcement of the latest iPhone 5. Yes it is bigger (just longer actually) and yes it is more powerful than the previous incarnations (it has to be right?), but.... Well, I confess I have been an Apple fan since I first owned the iPhone 3GS and since then, I have got my family and myself the iPhone 4, the iPad and also migrated to a MacBook Pro for my computing usage. Everything has been so innovative from Apple ever since the first iPhone and it took iPhone 3GS to convince me to start using Apple's products.


That being said, yesterday's annoucement of the iPhone 5, nothing special (this is my own opinion of course). For the first time I feel that Apple is playing catch-up rather than being the one being chased. For the first time (since 3GS), I have the urge to tryout a Samsung S3 or even the Nokia Lumia 920. And for the first time, I wish Apple still had Steve Jobs with them for I think they are loosing a lot of creativity without the MAN.

Why buying a discounted iPhone 4s now is stupid

iPhone 5 will likely be announced next month and everybody who follows tech news knows it. And every who does follow will know that many vendors and even Apple themselves have dropped the price of their iPhone 4s. A good,time to buy you say? Not unless you think you cannot afford a brand new iPhone 5 which maybe 50-100 bucks more costly. But, if you can afford it and you still want to get it, it is downright silly.

Here's why...

Foursquare, I got sick of checking in, but...

When I first discovered Foursquare about a year and a half ago, it seems like a pretty cool idea. I get to check-in to places that I've been, see who's around, read reviews of certain places, find out if any pretty people around me at the same time and same place (I know... creepy right??) and most of all I get to collect points and may someday become mayor of that place! I mean, at that time it seems like, wow! Especially if you're travelling around the world, you get to show off to your friends where you're going, where you're checking in.

Now after a year and a half (actually seems like longer), this all seems old... and most definitely trivial. Mind you, I've stopped checking for more than 4 months now. I couldn't care less about trying to gain mayorship of a location much less holding on to mayorship. I mean, WHAT'S THE POINT??

iOS 6.0, another way Apple is screwing its users over...

I have no problems with the features that will be appearing in the upcoming iOS 6.0. I have been an Apple user since iPhone 3GS. Ever since then, I got an iPhone 4 each for my wife, my mum and myself. I've also just recently bought the iPad 3 and migrated from a Windows PC to a Macbook Pro. 

When Siri came to iPhone 4S, I thought well, maybe the iPhone 4 really will lag if Siri was used on it, so that's why Apple don't want it in there. Fine. But then iOS 6.0 came along and in comes a feature already available to Android phones for ages, the turn-by-turn navigation, I was excited. I then later found out on Apple's website that this turn-by-turn (now on referred to as TBT) is only available for iPhone 4s and beyond! My expression at that moment was one of someone who just accidentally stepped on some sh*t! How could Apple do that to their iPhone 4 users??

Instagram has changed the way we take our pictures. Ever since it was released, its popularity in the social networking world has been staggering. Well, Facebook wouldn't have splurged so much dough to buy the company if it isn't so popular. Releasing the Android version when the iPhone version was at its peak is the best thing that it did. Right timing and I think that was really the final motivation for Facebook to make a move to buy the company.

I'm not such an avid user of Instagram myself though. Only the odd occasion here and there and I don't really share it on my social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter, etc..).
